It would be very proactive if PPO had the ability to send a notification based on a Date or a Rag field which is calculated and not based on an actual trigger (update) done on PPO.
This would work well with if a task is overdue and the responsible person is notified.
PPO has functionality to send an e-mail to users on a daily basis based on conditional logic e.g. overdue items. This functionality is achieved through report mailers (refer to this previously logged idea as well as this article).
Although this is not quite the same as the functionality you are suggesting, our concern would be that it could results in users being spammed (an excessive number of emails being sent). The report mailer approach (also sometimes referred to as a daily digest) allows you to better control the amount of e-mails that users receive.
