PPO is built around the concept of entities, the most important being Projects. Each project can in turn be linked to other entities like Documents, Tasks, Issues, Risks, etc. and these are referred to as Project Related Entities. In addition, there are entities that are not directly associated with a project like Employee, Demand, Programme and Approvals. There are also additional non-project-related entities available that can be configured depending on your requirements. You can also use / define your own custom project related entities. If you need more entities (project or non-project related entities) please log a support call and we will activate for you.
PPO offers pre-configured solutions aimed at different types of project management offices (PMOs). The out-of-the-box solutions have pre-configured standard entities. For the typical PMOs who are delivering projects within their organisation, the standard entities are listed below.
Entities list page
A list of the entities that are available can be accessed from the Administration Menu by selecting the Entities menu item. This will show a list of all entities that are available, whether they are currently in use, whether they are Project or Non-Project Related Entities as defined above.
An entity can be renamed by clicking on it in the Entity list as shown above which will open the Entity Edit page as shown below. From here the entity name and plural name can be specified for the entity.
In this example we will rename the Employee entity to Resource (plural Resources). After the user has clicked on Submit the entity will now appear in the menus with the newly specified name.
Note: When renaming entities, remember to also rename the applicable data fields, by changing the captions, and also renaming the categories for the applicable data fields.
Enabling custom entities
PPO provides a number of custom project related and non-project related entities that you can use/configure to suit your particular environment. The unused/available custom entities will appear in the Entities list as shown below:
You can enable a custom entity by clicking on the entity in the list above and checking the "In Use" checkbox.
Note that you can also take a custom entity out of use in the same way by un-checking the checkbox. For more information on configuring custom entities, refer to this article.
Hiding the primary key
We also have the ability to select Hide Primary Key which will prevent the internal key from showing on the entity's view page. Feel free to log a support ticket and the PPO Support Team will assist with updating this setting.
