What is the best way to show leave in my resource planning?

It is important to show leave when doing resource planning to ensure that resources are not over-allocated. If leave is not captured and factored into resource planning, resources can be allocated to projects during their leave period, causing a disjointed view of their allocation and usually showing that the resource is Over-Allocated.

The best way to show leave is to add an admin project specifically for this purpose.

When a resource is planned for leave, a resource allocation record, linked to the resource, must be added for the duration of the leave.

In the example below, Harry Adams has added a resource allocation record booking his leave for 10 days at 100% allocation. His overall capacity for March is 176 hours - 80 hours booked for leave, leaving him with 96 hours available capacity to work on projects.

Looking at the Capacity vs Planned Report, the above is reflected.
