Some of the basic functionality available in PPO does not work when running the tool from a tablet, for example the field definition dialog box when doing a mouse over a fields and quick location on custom lists by pressing the first letter of the option you would like to use.
Can you please investigate possible work arounds for tablet users in order to make their PPO engagement less frustrating.
Can you please clarify what you mean by "field definition dialog box"? I assume you are referring to the mouse-over on a field caption on an entity view page which shows the field description.
Mouse overs / hover: Unfortunately the iPad (or any touch centric UI) does not have the concept of a hover. We are therefore have to do a work-around, which may or may not be possible depending on the circumstances. The specific instance that I think you are referring to has a possible work-around in that we could implement a click event that brings up a pop-up which shows the tool-tip text. It is however not ideal since it would require a second touch to close the window and adds a lot of complexity (in that we have to do browser specific coding).
The second item regarding large drop down boxes is also a known issue with an iPad since there is no way to bring up the keyboard while selecting from a drop down list. Once again, the work-arounds are not ideal. As far as I am aware the only workaround that has been proposed, is to instead of using a drop-down, to rather use a text box with auto-complete. This however has some downside such as the user has to know what he is looking for, it requires decent connectivity to refresh the matches, it is complex to implement, is not consistent with the rest of the user interface, etc.
There are currently no work-arounds for the issues mentioned.
We however understand that iPad users experience some issues related to the fact that the touch interface is different to a mouse-based interface and will re-assess how we can address this based on the size of our iPad user base.
