Side Panel

When working in PPO, whether you’re navigating through a List View, Calendar, My List Widget, Board Views, or even using search, clicking on an item opens a Side Panel. This ensures that you remain on the same page ensuring you don't lose context of where you navigated from.

In this article we will cover:

List page / List Widget action icons

On list pages or list widgets like Risks, Actions, Issues and Decisions, under the Actions column heading you will notice two icons.  The first is the view icon and the second is the edit icon (yellow pencil).

Clicking on the View or Edit icons will open the item in a side panel and still keep you on the list page you navigated from.

In the side panel View mode, you still have your standard action buttons that you can use.  This allows you to Edit, Add, Copy and Delete via the side panel.

Clicking on the Edit icon takes you to the Edit page within the side panel where you can update the item and Submit.

The side panel will stay visible after submitting the record.  This allows you the opportunity to do additional actions like editing it again or starting a conversation on the item.

Icons on the side panel

On the side panel itself you will notice 5 action icons.

The icons in the side panel from left to right:

  • Save to List: Allows you to save an item to your My List Widget on the home page.
  • Copy page URL: Clicking on the Copy page URL icon copies the URL of the record, making it easy to share with a team member.
  • Open tab: Opens the side panel in a new full browser tab and closes the side panel on the page you navigated from.
  • Expand/Minimise:  Clicking on Expand opens the side panel in full screen mode without opening a new browser tab. Clicking on Minimise when in full screen mode shows the standard side panel.
  • Close: Allows you to close the side panel.

Special cases / additional considerations

Project List:

  • Clicking on the View icon from the Project List page opens a new tab on the browser and does not open in a side panel.  The reason behind this is due to the underlying entities under the Project View page.
  • Clicking on the Edit icon from the Project List page opens in the side panel.  In Edit mode we don't have the underlying entity tables below it.

Programme List:

  • Clicking on the View icon from the Programme List page opens a new tab on the browser and does not open in a side panel.  The reason behind this is due to the linked projects under the Programme view page.
  • Clicking on the Edit icon from the Programme List page opens in the side panel.  In Edit mode we don't have the underlying linked projects in view.

Scheduler & Gantt view:

  • Opens in a new browser tab and not the side panel.

My Approvals on home page:

  • Opens in a new browser tab and not the side panel. The My Approvals list sends the user to the approve page, and not the approval view page.
